A Boss Who Wants Every Employee To Own A BMW: Girish Mathrubootham

Girish Mathrubootham Co-founder of Freshdesk, a cloud-based customer support platform, in 2010 and won the Microsoft BizSpark Startup Challenge. A cloud-based helpdesk software company, was founded in October 2010 by former Zoho executives Mathrubootham and Shanmugam Krishnaswamy. It supports at least 40,000 customers and competes with global firms like Zendesk.

Girish considers himself a product managers at heart and believes that a successful product is one that has a lot of happy customers.

Today, Freshdesk has 200 employees and supplies services to over 20,000 businesses and organizations. As a passionate young entrepreneur, Mathrubootham says he either saw people as aggressive or submissive, and thought the only way to be successful was by being the former. His former boss Kumar Vembu, CEO and founder of GoFrugal Technologies, told him he was abrasive with his colleagues.

Girish said I have always believed that hiring passionate people and giving them big things to do is a great way to go forward when you are building a team. It helps employees set their expectations themselves and watch and learn from people around them.

He reward their employees with competitive pay, cash bonuses for spectacular efforts, “I am not starting a company for me to buy a BMW, I am starting a company so that all my employees can buy BMW’s” Girish said.
