Jio Wins Over Airtel! TRAI Blocks Airtel’s Misleading 4G Data Offers Due To Jio’s Complaint!

Ever since Reliance Jio announced its Unlimited offers in India, there has been an interesting tariff war among telecom companies, where many of the rivals like Airtel and Vodafone have accused it of disrupting the market.

Especially, the war between Airtel and Jio is getting bloodier day by day, but who are we to complain because it’s going to benefit us all, right?

Yes, the intense war between Jio and Airtel just doesn’t seem to end. After Airtel complained to TRAI about Jio’s promotional offer, it is Reliance’s turn to take a revenge. Last month, Jio had filed a complaint with TRAI and had asked the body to look into Airtel and other telecom companies’ violation of tariff rules.

According to Jio, Airtel was offering discriminatory and misleading offers to the customers under the same plan.

After reviewing the complaint filed by Jio, TRAI said that many telecom operators launch tariff plans without registering with it. Even TRAI agreed that the companies are doing this discrimination.

Taking a strict action against all these misleading telecom operators, especially Airtel, the TRAI asked to stop these discriminating offers right away; also it has asked Airtel to register new offers within 7 days of launch.

Basically, Jio had lodged the complaint on the basis of Airtel’s Rs 293 and Rs 449 4G data plans.

Acting upon Jio’s complaint, TRAI said,

In order to protect the interests of the consumers…hereby directs all the Access Service Providers to ensure that all the tariffs offered to the consumers shall be in accordance with the provisions of Telecommunication Tariff Order, 1999 and shall not be discriminatory between the subscribers of the same class.

Further, it has warned all operators to comply with the existing framework of Telecommunication Tariff Order, 1999. Exceptions would be allowed only if the order is amended.

Atlast, it’s a victory for Jio; the sector watchdog has ruled out the decision in favor of it, what’s better than this?

Well, Jio was right because telecom operators shouldn’t differentiate between its customers, don’t you think so?
