A yellow or brown mineral deposit on teeth is called tartar. Improper brushing can lead to plaque formation that when ignored forms tartar, a solidified plaque. As the quantity of tartar increases and if you don’t remove it, it can cause periodontitis. This would finally lead to several teeth and gum diseases.
Your dentist is the first solution but, if you can’t wait for your next dental appointment, you can remove tartar yourself using just a few ingredients.
All you’ll need is baking soda (It is the most popular and effective tool for removing plaque), hydrogen peroxide, salt, water, a cup, a toothbrush, a dental pick and some mouthwash.
Procedure To Remove Tartar from Teeth & Plaque Using Home Remedies:
Step 1: The first step is mixing a tablespoon of baking soda with half a teaspoon of salt. Slightly wet the toothbrush and dip into the baking soda mixture. Brush your teeth using the mixture for about five minutes before spitting it out.
Step 2: Now, it’s time to rinse. Create a rinse by mixing a cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1/2 cup of warm water & Rinse your mouth for one minute before spitting it out. Then rinse with ½ cup of cool water.
Step 3: Use a dental pick for rubbing the yellow tartar from teeth. Be careful not to scrape the gums because it may irritate and damage them.
Step 4: Use antiseptic mouth wash every second day to rinse your mouth.

Using Aloe Vera Gel And Glycerine:
Mix one cup of water, half cup of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel, 10 drops of lemon essential oil and 4 teaspoons of vegetable glycerine thoroughly. Scrub your teeth daily with this mixture for tartar removal.
Strawberries and Tomatoes:
Tomatoes and strawberries are amazing for maintaining oral health because they are rich in vitamin C. They can be rubbed directly onto your teeth and should be left for 5 minutes. They can whiten teeth and soften tartar. Rinse your mouth with baking soda mixed with warm water afterwards.
Consuming Swiss or Cheddar cheese before meals helps in neutralizing the acids that cause tartar. An ingredient in aged cheese works as a barrier agent.
Other tips to preserve oral health:
- Brushing your teeth properly after each meal prevents the formation of tartar.
- Munch an apple, musk melon, carrot or celery sticks. Chewing these fruits or vegetables one hour after meals is recommended for cleaning your teeth naturally.
- You should regularly use dental floss
- Eating spicy food can be another home remedy for removal of tartar which is easy to try.
- Rubbing orange peels directly onto the teeth helps to fight tartar forming microorganisms in the mouth and is a cheap natural way to whiten the tartar stained teeth.
