Woman Set On Fire In Public By Stalker, Dies In Hospital

In a horrible incident, a 25-year-old woman was doused with petrol and burnt alive by her jilted lover in full public view on the main road of Shanti Nagar in Lallaguda on Thursday evening.

She died around 7.30am while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, deputy commissioner of police (north zone) B Sumathi said. The man, aged around 28, has been arrested. Sandhya Rani, a graduate, worked as a receptionist at an aluminum fabrication unit, police said.

According to reports, the accused called the victim at the spot, where he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. Soon after committing the heinous act, the accused fled from the spot. However, some local residents took quick cognizance of the matter and doused the fire.

Quoting eye-witnesses, the police said she was returning home when the youth on a motorcycle met her. They were seen talking for about 10 minutes. Then the attacker suddenly sprinkled petrol and set her on fire. He escaped before people could raise an alarm.

“The couple had an argument on phone recently, when Karthik asked her to quit the job. However, Sandhya insisted on continuing with the job and ended their relationship,” DCP Sumathi said. Enraged by her decision, Karthik decided to kill her and set her ablaze.

The woman was then rushed to the hospital with 50 percent burns. Meanwhile, a case under section 307 of IPC & ST/SC Atrocity Act has been registered against the accused. The police later arrested the accused in connection with the case.
