Mangalyaan’s One Month in Mars’ Orbit – Special Google Doodle

Meraa Bharath Mahan…!!! Jai Hindustan. Special day for Indians that Mangalyaan completed one month journey in Mar’s orbit that is on 24th October. Google on Thursday night put out a doodle on Google home page for India, marked one month since the historic entry of India’s first Mars mission spacecraft Mangalyaan. The Doodle is like showing the Mangalyaan in outer space with a portion of the red planet in the background.

Mangalyaan in Mar’s Orbit:

The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO’s) recently launched Mangalyaan has completed a month today 24th October 2014 in the Martian Orbit. Mangalyaan was launched on November 5th, 2013 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh with the powerful Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The mission was approved by the Indian government in August 2012 and was executed in 15 months at a cost of Rs. 450 crore ($74 million). On that day when the Mangalyaan entered the red planets orbit  Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this is the first low cost mission with only $74 million which is one tenth of what NASA cost for their mission, this low cost Mangalyaan earned India the name the only country in the world to succeed on its first attempt.

Google Celebrates Mangalyaan’s 1 Month in Mars Orbit:

India in its 25th flight, the PSLV C25 had launched the Mars Orbiter Mission. After five orbit raising manoeuvres the mission for Mars entered the trans mars injection.Finally on September 24, Mangalyaan entered the Martian orbit.The journey which was 680 million kilometers away from the earth was monitored by ISRO, NASA and also by many stations around the world.

The aim of Mangalyaan is to explore the surface features, morphology and mineralogy of Mars, besides the Martian atmosphere with the help of indigenous scientific instruments. After getting up-close with Mars, Mangalyaan had sent several pictures of the planet. One of the images, which showed the red planet in its entirety, was widely shared and used across the world.
