Coming to the facts, after Ramayana, it was time for Lord Ram to leave the earth. This incident was very painful for hanuman ji. For a devotee who sacrificed everything for the service of his Lord, separation from his Lord was a very painful experience. But Lord Ram assured hanuman ji that he would come in the form of Lord Krishna in the dwapar yug to establish dharma.

Hanuman is also present in the Mahabharat. He was there to support the Pandav brothers, one can see him on the flag of Arjun’s chariot to protect him against deadly weapons. Again it was time for the end of dwapar yug. Lord Krishna was about to leave this earth, so he says this to Hanuman,

“Hanuman, you are immortal, your duty is to protect the devotees and help in the establishment of dharma in the fierce kaliyug which is now on its way”.

Now, with these references from the sacred texts, we can conclude that Hanuman was alive after both Ramayan and Mahabharat. He is a Chiranjeevi, so he never dies and is present everywhere, all we need is pure devotion to experience him.
