5 Major Differences Between The Reel Life Story And Real Life Story Of Padmaavat

Yesteryear’s most awaited ‘Padmaavat’ has finally made it to the big screens. The journey of this Bhansali’s directorial from being ‘Padmavati’ to Padmaavat revealed the layers of religious and communal ordeals in India. After all the prejudice ‘Karni Sena’ held for the movie even without watching it, Supreme Court backed the director and gave a nod for the release.

Well, to all those people who recklessly denied the release fearing the insensitivity in the movie, Bhansali answered them in 3D. The premiers started on 24th January, i.e; yesterday. Garnering the rave reviews from every corner of the country, we can say that Bhansali’s cast didn’t fail to impress us at any instance.

Coming to the storyline, the whole movie is based on an excerpt of Rajput’s era. So, there is no way to expect twists. When the story has no prominence, it is the screenplay that steals the show. Bhansali did a good job, he delivered the utmost work from his side and just like he does in every movie, he once again presented us a larger than life show.

However, it is the climax of the movie, that won the staggering 164 minutes of it. The breathtaking music knocks just after Shahid’s demise and mind-it, it will resonate for hours even after you walk out of the theaters.

But, how about the real history behind the movie? Is it adapted as it happened? Or are there things that were tweaked for the sake of movie lovers?

The answer is HELL YES! And, not just one or two, there are a plethora of changes considered while making the movie. Out of so many, we will point out those important things which if taken as they are might change the whole course of the movie.

1. Rani Padmini’s friend, a pet parrot:

As per the popular history, Padmini was close friends with a talking parrot, a friendship that her father resented. So, the parrot was ordered to be executed but it somehow escaped and managed to reach the local king Ratan Sen. The parrot was all-praises for the beauty of Rani Padmavati.

But, in the movie, this incident including the parrot was nowhere seen.

2. How Rani Padmini Met Ratan Singh:

The story printed in Rajasthan school textbooks and the beginning versions of the story indicate that Rani Padmini is a Sri Lankan princess and she met Ratan Singh through her lost parrot, which persuaded Ratan Singh towards the princess. But, the meeting scene of the duo is shown completely different in the movie.

3. The Marriage of Rani Padmini and Ratan Singh:

It is very well described in all the stories that Rani Padmavati is well-trained in war strategies and battleship. This made her adept at the art of swordsmanship. During her Swayamvar, she kept a condition that whoever would defeat the designated fighter in a sword battle would win her.

Now, to much surprise, the designated sword fighter was Padmini herself. Many princes and kings lost to her and it was only king Rawal Ratan Singh who won and she had to marry him. And this version is long way dead in the movie.

4. Ratan Singh’s Death:

History says that Alauddin was of course totally obsessed with Rani Padmini’s beauty. But, he only saw Padmini in a reflection as she didn’t allow him to see her face to face. Alauddin deceitfully captured Ratan Singh. This led to the women of Chittor prepare for Jauhar while the fight was still going on. As many soldiers of Chittor’s army died, Ratan Singh also died while fighting beside his men.

And every watcher will know how Ratan Singh has died in the movie, not the way it was written in the original story.

5. There are over 5 versions of the Padmavati’s story in History:

Now, this is some serious problem. There are nearly 5-8 versions of Rani Padmini’s life story. The first one came in the 16th century. Which obviously is more than 250 years after Rani Padmini’s self-immolation. Now, why did the story come out only after two hundred years?

Meanwhile, some prominent historians pointed out that the mythical Rani Padmavati was born somewhere around 1500s and this time is approximately two hundred years away from the timeline of Alauddin Khilji. The version of Jayasi of the story of Padmavati has many loopholes and they are being pointed by professors and historians all across India.

On a brief note, it seems like an ardent possibility that ‘Padmavat’ was only an excellent piece of fiction literature while having no roots in history.
