Airtel Reacts To JIO’s ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Offer’, Quotes It As ‘Old Wine In A New Bottle’

It is pretty well known that right from the very inception, Reliance JIO has been kicking aside the stereotypic Internet offers, call cutters and other recharge benefits of all the Mobile network companies. Within no time, this telecom firm occupied the large parts of domestic businesses.

Jio, in the beginning, provided 3 months of free internet and phone calls to the users from September till January, surprising the whole country the offer was extended to three more months until March 31st.

JIO once again shocked its users by extending the deadline to 15 more days i.e; April 15th, in order to give enough time and space for the free users to get into its Prime membership program. In addition to that, Summer Surprise offers were introduced, however, they were aborted as per the orders from Telecom Authority of India (TRAI). Now, once again JIO came up with its new astounding schemes of Rs 309 and Rs 509, quoted as ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan’ offers.

This time, Airtel finally opened up on the issue drawing satires on the new schemes, the spokesperson from Airtel called this new JIO offer as “old wine in a new bottle”.

The new plans with benefits for Jio Prime members are aimed at encouraging subscribers to “live the digital life without restrictions”, Jio said in the statement released post the announcement on the website.

“Considering the special benefits that are available to Jio Prime members, customers who were unable to subscribe to Jio Prime for any reason can continue to do so by paying Rs 408 or Rs 608 (Jio Prime + recharge price) to avail these benefits,” it added.

In considering the current state of business, Airtel once again objected JIO’s deeds saying “authority (TRAI) will act against this provocative disregard of their direction”.

“… We are surprised to see what Jio is doing. It violates the spirit of the TRAI directive and essentially continues with a similar plan now masquerading under a different name. This is a classic example of old wine in a new bottle,” the spokesperson added.

Later he even mentioned that the telecom industry is currently bleeding and is in very weak position, this deeds might even turn out problematic in long-term period. “With a weakened financial position, companies will find it difficult to raise the capital to invest and roll out broadband networks,” Airtel cautioned.

Meanwhile, earlier, this week, the telecom giant Vodafone complained to TRAI on JIO on regarding its last minute subscriptions to Summer Surprise offers to quote it as the violation of TRAI’s norms.
