All of you know that Freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru were three great sons of India, who breathed their last as ‘martyrs’. Their contribution to Indian freedom struggle was unforgettable and they motivated people to fight against the Britishers to get Mother India out of the shackles of the slavery.

According to records, when they were was arrested following the consequences of 1929 Assembly bomb throwing incident, Hunger strike and Lahore conspiracy case & sentenced to death under the rule of viceroy Lord Irwin (Lord Halifax,) who was viceroy of India from 1926 to 1931.

The story claiming Bhagat Singh was hanged on 14th February (Valentine’s day) is therefore a hoax.

When rumours are spread on such sensitive issues, then, it shows that we are not giving sufficient acknowledgement for the sacrifices made by our great freedom fighters.

Every year, 23rd March is observed as Martyrs’ Day in honor of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru & Sukhdev. A salute to our martyrs for giving up their lives during freedom struggle so that subsequent generations could live in peace & prosperity.
