China has been manufacturing a lot of fake things. We Indians were fine as long as that fakeness was limited to the phones and other electronic things.

But now, they have crossed the line by manufacturing plastic rice and introducing it in our market. Chinese phone, digestible but Chinese rice undigestable (pun intended).

The ‘plastic rice’ is reportedly made by forming potatoes and sweet potatoes into regular rice grains shape, then adding industrial synthetic resins. It remains hard after cooking and can cause serious health issues.

A video of workers feeding plastic into a machine to produce white, rice-like granules has sparked fears on Chinese social media. Many people said the factory, thought to be located in China, was producing toxic rice out of sheets of plastic.

Whenever you buy rice, first thing, put a handful of it in a glass of water. If it floats, it’s plastic, if it sinks, it’s RICE.

2. Fungus Test

Cook some rice and place it somewhere warm for a few days. If it gets a layer of fungus, it’s real otherwise you know it has come from China.

3. Cook Test

Cook the rice in an open container and see if you see some unusual residues along with the froth. If you see a thick layer accumulating on the rice, throw it away and ask the seller for a refund.
