Latest News: Women Cops on Wheels to take Criminals on Delhi Roads

Now-a-days there is no security for women mainly in metropolitan cities. Recently many cases have been filed in Delhi. Taking the rising cases of crime against women into consideration in Delhi, the Union home ministry has asked the Delhi Police to form women patrolling squads for areas frequented by women or from where such cases are mostly reported. It has also decided to increase the number of policewomen in Delhi.

Women Cops on Wheels:

As per the souces Police said these teams would patrol the streets even at mid-night also. Each squad will comprise two policewomen. “The purpose behind the MHA’s new initiative is to ensure safety and security of women and curb crimes against them. On July 16th, Union home minister Rajnath Singh had held his first meeting with the Delhi Police officers at the police headquarters and discussed women’s security,” the police officer told HT.

In a letter to Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi, the MHA has asked the force to prepare a list of requirements of scooties that will be given to the women police patrolling squads as per the sources.

“The women police patrolling squad will be equipped with wireless sets and latest weapons. Their work profile will be similar to our beat staff but their movements will be restricted to areas mostly visited by women such as women’s colleges, girls’ schools, PG accommodations for women and markets,” a senior Delhi police officer said.

On being questioned about their riding scooties, the officer explained that a scooty is light weight and a majority of women prefer it. Moreover, very few policewomen know how to ride a motorcycle, the officer added.

The joint commissioners of police (Joint CPs) of all the six ranges have been intimated to prepare a list of women police patrolling squads and scooties required in their ranges. The list has to be submitted as early as possible, the police source said.
