EgyptAir: Man Hijacks Plane To Deliver Letter To Ex-wife In Cyprus

An EgyptAir plane from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked on Tuesday and landed in Cyprus. About 50 passengers are there on the plane. The man who hijacked the flight is identified as 27-year-old Egyptian national Ibrahim Samaha and he believed to have certain personal reasons behind carrying out the act.

According to the reports, Samaha wanted to send a letter to his ex-wife who lives in Cyprus. Witnesses said him throw the letter, written in Arabic, on the apron of the airport in Larnaca, asking it to be delivered to his ex-wife.
He has demanded asylum on the Mediterranean island. Reports suggest the hijacker asked for a translator to press his demand. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has said that “He is not a terrorist, he’s an idiot. Terrorists are crazy, but they are not stupid.“
