“Adoption Allowance”: Flipkart Offers Rs 50,000 Allowance to Employees For Adoption

India’s E-commerce retailer and major Flipkart is affording its employes with an allowance of Rs 50,000 to adopt children after relaxing maternity and paternity policies. Spokesperson of the Flipkart in an official statement said that offered “adoption allowance” can be used by the employees to towards legal, agency, regulatory costs or any other expenses the at may arise during the adoption process and assured that it would be effective from July 10.

Over 1,368 children found new homes in the January-March quarter of 2015 as per the official reports of the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). India despite having largest population of children adoption rates in the nation have been dismal in the country who are abandoned, deserted or are in the institutional care.

Under the new policies employees of Flipkart would be granted with three months paid leave and four months of flexible working hours for adopting a children aged over a year as per official reports of  the firm.

Male employees of Flipkart would be granted with a six months of paid adoption leave which can be availed within the first six months and four months of flexible working hours. Spokesperson of Flipkart said “If the employee is looking at extending their adoption leaves, but they don’t have enough leaves left, they can take unpaid leave for up to three months and continuity on the same job is assured.”

Maternity and paternal leave policy of the Bengaluru-based e-commerce giant of India have been liberalised on July 1, 2015 aiming at providing flexibility to employees to help them take care of personal commitments as well as be productive at work. Mothers and females employees working at Flipkart can avail six months of paid leave added to this they would be offered with flexible working hours for four months with full pay.

Flipkart is availing one-year career break without pay for the female employees if it is much needed. Flipkart offers women employees for two months with Rs 600 per day transport reimbursement they go on maternity break. Flipkart is also providing the male employees and dads with 10 days paternity leave as well as three months of flexible working hours.
