Govt-approved Rs 1500 Crore Neutrino Project At Theni Will Be Set Up Soon: Harsh Vardhan

Indian Neutrino Observatory (INO) project is proposed to come up in Theni district of Tamilnadu located in limbo, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences expressed optimism regarding the projects future on Tuesday.

In January, last year Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the go ahead to the observatory at a cost of Rs 1500 crore. The project is facing many protests from activists and political leaders of Tamilnadu and Kerala over its impact on the environment.

“I will personally look into the nitty-gritty of the issue. Our Ministry will work towards a positive outcome,” Dr. Harsh Vardhan said through video conferencing. This is to address the regional media across the country to increase the number of achievements of his ministry and their departments.

“CSIR is ranked at 84th position among the 4851 institutions across the world and is the only Indian organisation among the top 100 global institutions,” the minister said citing the Scimago Institutions ranking world report.

CSIR scientists have designed a clot of protein which is in phase 2 of clinical trials at present in health sector. The herbal anti diabetic drug BGR-34 is priced at Rs. 5 per pilland indigenously developed Rotavirus vaccine to fight diarrhoea which cleared for market license said the Minister.

Harsh Vardhan said future projects are underway to set up a chain of Marine Biotech labs to the ocean from the Andamans to Lakshadweep as well as major initiatives in farmer agriculture.
