Hyderabad Student Obtains 31st Rank In NEET

A student from Hyderabad, Erla Sathvik Reddy, obtained the 31st rank in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2016 result which was announced on Tuesday. He was also the topper for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) MBBS entrance examination this year.

CBSE announced the results for Phase-I and Phase-II of Neet on Tuesday, a day before it was actually scheduled to be released. According to latest reports received from various NEET coaching institutes across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, this is the highest rank achieved by a Telugu student in both states in NEET 2016.

Satvik achieved the best rank from the two Telugu states in Neet followed by Premlal, also from Hyderabad who achieved 134th rank.

Telugu students, aspiring to get into MBBS course this year, had to suffer severe confusion, due to uncertainty over NEET. As a result, not only was the Telangana State Eamcet held twice till now, but even NEET was held twice. As there was no clarity on whether NEET was compulsory by the time the first NEET was held in May, not many students applied for it. But most of the Telugu students appeared for NEET-II held on July 24.

NEET is applicable for admissions in 15 per cent seats in government colleges across the country except in AP and TS and for private college management quota seats including the two Telugu states. Eamcet is the only exam for admissions to government and private medical colleges in the two states.

About 21,000 students took NEET from Telangana State and only those who were ready to join in management quota seats in private colleges joined.  “Though I was a topper in AIIMS and got the second rank in AP Eamcet, I took NEET to get exposed to different examination patterns,” said E Sathvik Reddy got a percentile score of 99.99.
