When it comes to social media, spreading a fake news around is not uncommon anymore. The latest buzz was the fake news of Farida Jalal‘s death that had Twitter and Facebook buzzing like crazy since last evening.

Farida Jalal is one of our senior most loved actors who epitomized the concept of a loving, understanding mother in Bollywood in the 90s. She has starred in many films including blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Her role in DDLJ cannot be forgotten. In fact, she won a Filmfare award for that memorable performance. She is also well known for her role on TV in the popular series – Shararat.

But suddenly, last night death news of Farida Jalal came out because Wikipedia showed the death date of Farida Jalal to be 19th of February 2017; this news shocked everyone!

Fans all around started to mourn her death, paying tribute to the much-loved actress.

The image went viral on social media in no time and was shared by thousands of Facebook and Twitter users with condolences pouring in from the social media users who believed the hoax.

But how did this news spread?

Well, someone happened to update her Wikipedia page with her death news and that was enough for the news to spread. Twitterati started believing this news as soon as they saw this false Wiki update.

Edit history shows that page was last edited on 19th Feb 6:18 PM i.e. few hours back. Check the proof:-

Wikipedia later, fixed it. (screenshot shared below). In fact, the company realized its mistake and removed the death date. The news was 101% fake & Farida Jalal is still alive.In no time, Wikipedia rectified the error; once again, the page is back to normal.

However, the actor slammed the death rumors and said she is alive. She expressed her anger in an interview with DNA. 

I am hale and hearty. I don’t know where these baseless rumours are coming from. Initially, I laughed, but from last 30 mins my phone have been constantly ringing and everybody is asking the same question. It’s a bit irritating, I wonder why people spread such rumours.

So guys, we think people must bother to cross check the news twice before they start posting online. Even if one user posts it, the news goes super-viral and 100 other people start spreading.
