Jayalalitha Passed Away Of Cardiac Arrest At 11:30 PM, Last Rites To Be Performed Today At 4:30 PM

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest yesterday. She breathed her last on Monday at 11.30 PM and the whole state of Tamil Nadu, broke down after hearing this news. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest late on Sunday. She has been put on a heart assist device.

Jayalalithaa has been in intensive care since September 22. The chief minister, who has been in Apollo since September 22, had suffered the cardiac arrest on Sunday evening. Jayalalitha passed away at 11:30 Pm yesterday, as per the reports. Greater Chennai Corporation issued her death certificate at 11’o clock this morning.

Born in 1948, Jayalalithaa started her career as an actress in South Indian films. In 1982, she joined the AIADMK, which was founded by her mentor MG Ramachandran. She first became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu in 1991. She has ruled the state for over 15 years.

Thousands of followers, who began gathering around the hospital since Sunday evening, wept at the passing away of their “Amma”. A source at Apollo Hospital said the AIADMK chief was on ventilator support during her final days.

“It is with indescribable grief we announce the sad demise of our esteemed honorable chief minister of Tamil Nadu Puratchithalavi Amma at 11.30pm today,” a midnight statement from the hospital said.

 

It came as a huge blow for her supporters who had been waiting for her to recover from her earlier illness and return to office. The death has left a huge vacuum in Tamil Nadu politics. Violence broke out at Apollo hospital as soon as the news started trickling out.
