Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace Has Been Named The Best Hotel In The World For 2016 – Take a Look Around
The Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel in Jodhpur, Rajasthan which is magnificent in every aspect and also the dream wedding destination for many people, has been named the best hotel in the world for the year 2016. This Indian Palace, known for its chalky-blue buildings, has won the traveler’s choice award for 2016 from TripAdvisor, a customer review website in its 14th edition, with a five out of five bubble rating among its 840 guests.
The Umaid Bhawan Palace was designed by renowned Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, which is a blend of eastern and western architectural influences. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, the golden-yellow sandstone monument was built between 1928 and 1943, and still serves as the principal residence of the Jodhpur royal family.
It has a majestic 105-foot high cupola influenced by the Renaissance, while the towers draw inspiration from Rajput tradition. The lavish interiors with gilt furniture and elegant artwork follow the Art Deco style, complemented by the exotic murals of the self-exiled Polish artist Stefan Norblin. The magnificent palace/hotel has 64 bedrooms and suites including one with a private spa and the average price for a night’s stay is $734 (approx Rs 50,000).
The only other Indian hotel in TripAdvisor’s 25-best hotels list is the Orange County Resorts Kabini in Karnataka, which was ranked 13th best in the world.
