Kejriwal Tendering Apology To Majithia An Attempt To Minimize Legal Pressure: Amarinder Singh

NEW DELHI: The recent u-turn by Kejriwal by tendering apology for the allegations he levelled against Bikram Singh Majithia of being involved in drugs trade drew flak from Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. He termed the apology by the AAP Chief as an attempt to reduce legal burdern because of which he was under uninvited pressure. The reason for this burden was of course the defamation cases which were filed against him by Majithia, so the view is that he tried to come clean just before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“I don’t know why he does that but this is no way for a chief minister to behave, irrespective of his lack of experience,” an official statement quoted Mr Singh as commenting over the issue for a TV channel.

“No government can function in isolation, but Mr Kejriwal has completely isolated himself. AAP has completely lost ground in all states”, he claimed.

“(Arvind) Kejriwal seemed to have apologised to (Bikram Singh) Majithia over drug charges possibly to prepare for next year’s polls. But the fact was that things have turned worse for him,” Mr Singh was quoted as saying in the issued statement.

Talking about the AAP’s future prospect in Punjab, the states CM claimed that the party’s MLAs were very much disappointed and were as per reports are looking for alternatives to be able to safeguard their own future. The Congress seems to be unsuccessfull as of now but it does not convey the message that it is going to be in this way for ever, he was quoted as saying and he also expressed confidence that there would be a change for sure in 2019 polls. CM Amarinder Singh is very much optimistic about Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi as a prime ministrial candidate and that there is a great possibility that he will be the next prime minister our nation.

He gave the example of recent AICC plenary session, in which there was full support by the whole crowd and they are all looking him to be next prime minister.

Commenting on the TDP’s decision to leave the alliance with ruling NDA at the centre just a year before the Lok Sabha polls, Mr Singh claimed that it is a sign that the ruling coalition is loosing its base and also people’s mood is changing now and they are looking for UPA type of alliance for the future.

Meanwhile fresh deveopments are taking place in Punjab after the fallout resulting from Kerjriwal’s apology. Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu said that the only solution for Punjab lies in giving “total autonomy” for the state unit and a “separate constitution is needed”. This would greatly help the unit recover from the current crises.“The leadership, which has taken this decision at their level, should come to Punjab,” Sandhu reportedly said. In another statement he refused to budge from his earlier stance of allegations against Majithia. Sandhu, who released a letter publicly on Saturday which he had written to Kejriwal in December 2017, added, “With several inter-state issues coming up where our party is now entering in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, a closely knit and homogeneous national party is often called upon to take uncomfortable and divergent views to suit different states.”
