LAST DAY: How & Where To Spend Your Old 500 & 1000 Notes

So, here is the day that terminates the validity of old 500 and 1000 notes in the market. Earlier on November 18th, the government has announced that the old notes are valid until November 24th.

After today, the only way to consider the 500 notes valid is by exchanging them at the banks with new denominations. However, even that should be done before 30th December.

On November 8th, during the announcement of the ban on 500 notes , government mentioned that the notes will be accepted only at the selective organizations like petrol pumps, Mother Dairy and other government milk booths, government hospitals, railway ticketing and crematoria and burial grounds for 72 hours.

Considering the crowds at ATMs and issues in money transactions, the government extended the life of 500 notes for further 72 hours.

And the functioning of notes was extended to more number of places that include metro rail tickets, highway toll, medicine prescribed by a doctor, LPG gas cylinders, railway catering, electricity and water bills and entry tickets of ASI monuments.

As the new notes are barely trickling into the current market, further extension of validity was expanded. On 14th November, the government announced the extension up to 24th November.

After sensing the crowds at ATM centers, Petrol bunks and toll gates, It is partly believed that the government might extend its validity date further.

Irrespective of the extensions, these are the places where one can spend their old currency denominations:
