Madhya Pradesh: Parents Throwing Their Kids In Cow Dung For Good Luck

This looks like an awkward belief for the people in a village called Betul in Madhya Pradesh. People in India, especially Hindus believe in cow as a god and many worship them. People even consume the urine of cows as a medicine for the diseases. But this belief looks funny as the parents are throwing their children in the cow dung saying that this would help them lead a healthy life without any diseases in future.

Parents dipping kids in cow dung

Innocent people in India will do anything for the sake of good luck. They never think about further complications and blindly follow the beliefs. There are many beliefs we have seen like keeping a coin in a dummy frog’s mouth and facing it towards the door to spotting a pair of Myna to rubbing the belly of a laughing Buddha. But this activity of dipping their children in cow dung is something which is sounding funny.

People believe smearing their kids in cow dung can help them lead a healthy life. Along with that is the belief ‘purity’ of the cow dung will bring them good luck. The weird practice is followed a day after Diwali. For weeks, people in the village collect cow dung in one place. After offering special prayers to the god,  people start dipping children as young as one-year-old in the pool of cow dung.

People are crazy that they wait for their turn to place their kids in the pure dung. Each and every child should be dipped in the dung. This practice is being followed since centuries and the people in Betul believe their kids have benefitted for doing so. People who believe this, say that they are benefitted. People who don’t, criticize it is an old superstitious belief which has no meaning.
