Cyclone Alert! Meteorological Office Warns Heavy Rains In AP & Tamil Nadu

The Meteorological Office (Met) has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in the isolated areas over north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining south coastal Andhra Pradesh. Met said that as the depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal may intensify into a cyclone, they forecast about heavy rains.

Heavy rains in AP and Tamil Nadu

The depression moved north, northwest and lay centred about 120 km south by southeast of Chennai, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday. Later it said the intensification of the depression into a deep depression will be delayed by a day to Wednesday.

This depression would move and also affect in the areas such as Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast, re-curve to the north-northeast (away from the coast) and enter the Central Bay to intensify into a cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours. The IMD advised fishermen not to venture into the sea as the condition is likely to be rough along and off coastal Andhra, Puducherry, and north Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rains in AP and TN

The MET office has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chittoor, Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool of Rayalaseema on Thursday and Friday. Strong winds with speed reaching 50 to 60 km per hour are likely along and off south and north coastal Andhra.

The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has forecasted thunderstorm at isolated places in Telangana. It is said that appreciable rise in maximum temperatures at one or two places in Telangana.
