Bollywood Actor Nana Patekar Stands Out for Widows of Drought Hit Farmers

Highly acclaimed for his versatile acting and kindness, Bollywood actor Nana Patekar bears a witness to the society there is a need to care for the building blocks of the nation i.e., farmers. This humble man of Bollywood has ascended with his kind gesture towards the deprived lives of Indian roots (farmers) who have been committing suicide due to the drought lending his moral and financial support to them.

Naam Foundation of Nana Patekar has come up with an unambiguous sign of public faith for drought-hit families in Maharashtra was successful enough to pull in donations of Rs 6 crores in one month. When it comes to donations we find big names and donors with higher income. While here are a few unusual donors for the Naam Foundation who joined the campaign of Nana Patekar contributing at their best.

A few notable donors of Naam foundation were a beggar from Pune contributed Rs. 300, six women conservancy workers donated Rs 500 each summing up Rs. 3000 who clean the streets of Matunga. Most of the donations for the Naam Foundation has been harnessed from middle-class families making the NGO ledger lists a range of sums from Rs 500 to Rs 2 lakh. To ensure the transparency and to give feedback for the donors Naam foundation had listed down the name, cheque number and phone number of every single donor.

Briefing about the donations and the foundation Nana Patekar said “I saw stirring visuals of bereaved women and children and was deeply shaken by their plight. I could not sit idly by anymore so I rang my friend, actor Makarand Anaspure, who nurtures a deep connect with his native Beed. We went there and were appalled by what we saw. I think youngsters who travel outstation for picnics should take a detour through these areas. They will be enlightened.”

Initially while distributing Rs 15,000 from their earnings Nana Patekar and Makarand for over 225 farmer suicide victims families thought of adopting a village while there was scarcity of funds. However with the raised funds now Nana and Makarand will be adopting one village at a time and resolve the water problem permanently. Nana said “Another of our seven trustees, Dr Pol, is a dentist by profession but a field expert too. He chanced upon a 600-acre reservoir in some old government documents. We revived this water source that was lost to history. Now the problem has been resolved.”

Farmers and as well as donors of Naam foundation have been left interacted at the actors old family home in Matunga on Monday afternoon. Affirming his support to the  farmer suicide victims families Nana said “Work has just started. There are 20 widows you are helping. But there are 200 more behind them with their palms folded, looking at you with pleading eyes.
