Pooja, 20, is a second-year BA student of General Shivdev Singh Diwan Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College in Patiala, Punjab. She is a national-level handball player which accordingly brought her under the radar for getting free hostel facilities.

She was seen hanging in her room on August 21st morning and was immediately taken to the hospital. But it was too late as she was declared dead. Pooja had written a suicide note and it was addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Pooja also urged PM Modi that “underprivileged girls like me should be provided free education facility.” Pooja was given admission last year, she was promised free hostel facility and food. But this year she wasn’t given the permission to stay in the hostel.

A case of Section 306 of IPC (abetment to suicide) has been filed however Khalsa College management has said the girl was given free admission but was not allowed free hostel facility this year because of her poor performance.
