Nawazuddin Brutally Slams Bollywood And Praises Oscars For Paying Tribute To Late Om Puri

Om Puri, as we all know, is an iconic actor who worked in Bollywood and Hollywood. He was one of the actors who could play any role with great finesse and versatility was one of his hallmarks, like any true artist.

Puri, who was part of hundreds of Bollywood films, had also acted in few well known Hollywood movies like, Oscar-winning movie ‘Gandhi’,  ‘My Son the Fanatic’, ‘East Is East’, and ‘City of Joy’.

And recently, acknowledging his contribution to the world of cinema, the Academy awards 2017 paid a fitting tribute to Bollywood’s veteran actor Om Puri in it’s “In Memoriam” segment.

And, as expected, this proved to be a proud yet emotional moment for his family. Speaking about it, Puri’s  son, Ishaan and wife Nandita thanked the Academy and said that he was someone who let his work do the talking.

Their Exact Words

The only Indian actor to have worked consistently in Hollywood and British cinema for the last 25 years, without a fuss and letting his work speak for itself, today the Academy of Motion Pictures acknowledged his contribution at its 89th Awards. The first and only Indian actor to be acknowledged thus. Thank you Academy. Thank you everyone. We miss you Om. We miss you lots.

Interestingly, shortly after the Academy Honoured Om Puri, Nawazuddin Siddiqui took to Twitter and lamented how no one in Bollywood paid tribute to him during the awards season.

Have a look at his tweet:

It must be said, whatever Nawaz is saying seems to be pretty spot on. The Ardh Satya star was an integral part of Bollywood. He starred in commercial as well as art-house films and added so much to them through his performances. Yet no one even mentioned during awards season. Sad!
