Opposition moves no-confidence in Lok Sabha over SCS for AP, Modi govt plays safe

New Delhi: The move of no-confidence motion gathered momentum after YSR Congress and TDP lead along with many parties from opposition supported them. This seemed to be beginning of finding faultlines in NDA led Government.

The huge support pouring from all opposition parties left no choice for other opposition parties but to support the ongoing no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, helping the all of them to maintain anti-BJP stance.

Despite the heavy criticism and opposition to each other, TDP and YSR Congress, found the same way as a solution to the ongoing struggle for AP state’s special status. And they both moved no-confidence motion separatly for the same goal.

Though the such a contest’s results are foregone for BJP commands a majority by itself, the stage seems to be set for political manoeuvring with TDP formally ending its association with NDA. Along the same lines the natural ally of BJP, Shiv Sena also seems to attempt to disalign itself despite being part of central and Maharashtra governments.

Among the opposition parties, AIADMK and BJD have not conveyed their stance over the issue as of now, although they have major differences with the Central Government. They are considering to vote against the Centre.

And other bloc of opposition camp, parties like Trinamool are trying to take the lead to attack BJP. Meanwhile Congress is about to decide clearly the Rahul Gandhi’s leadership role. So the no-confidence motion is about to be admitted though as the whole of House was still not in proper order on Friday with parties like AIADMK and TRS MPs in the well.

Atleast 50 MPs need to support the motion, so that the LS Speaker may take the notice on Monday. So time will tell whether AIADMK and TRS will support the motion.

The TDP party at first protested and sent a serious message to the Centre after asking its ministers to resign from the Centre last week. And on Friday it decided to snap all ties with NDA alliance only after attacking Modi government for not fulfilling promises made to the state. The main issue raised by it was not recognizing the AP State under Special Category Status, which helped him gain support from opposition parties like Congress, Left, Trinamool Congress, AAP and AIMIM.

The recent defeat of BJP in the Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha bypolls and also the Nirav Modi-PNB scam gave an opportunity for opposition to take some jibes against the BJP-led government at the Centre.

While this support for no-confidence motion may seem to be natural outcome from anti-BJP bloc, the decision needs to be debated with the hint that BJP and allies are in majority to overcome the challenge.
