RBI To Issue Rs 200 Notes From Tomorrow And Here Are Specifications, Pictures Of It

Everything regarding the new notes has become a trending topic post the demonetization, it was November 8th, 2016 that turned the economic phase of the country. Post the demonetization, various changes were procured by the Reserve Bank of India, out of which the introduction of RS 2000 notes played a crucial role.

After going through the multiple changeovers, the government’s roping in of the high denominations raised some serious concerns. Despite this, in various occasions, RBI also released its statements and models of the new Rs 200 notes, that’ll be on the table from tomorrow.

“The process of printing the new Rs 200 notes is likely to begin after June, once the government officially approves this new denomination.” In addition to this, in a recent bid, the RBI also mentioned that it has plans to manufacture the Rs 10 notes from the plastic material, contrary to its general cotton-paper based.

RBI is all set to issue the Rs 200 notes from Friday (August 25) from selected RBI offices and some banks. This is expected to ease the shortage of lower-denomination currency bills. The notes will be in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, bearing the signature of Governor Urjit Patel.

“Introduction to a new currency denomination and design is done keeping in consideration various factors like ease of transactions for the common man, replacement of soiled banknotes, inflation and the need for combating counterfeiting,” the RBI said in a press release on Thursday.

“There is a logical need to introduce the missing denomination of Rs 200, which will make the present currency system more efficient. Provision of the new denomination, therefore, would facilitate exchange, particularly for the common man who deals with denominations at the lower end,” it added.

Further, detailing the salient features of the notes, it said: “The new denomination has Motif of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base color of the note is bright yellow. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall color scheme, both at the obverse and reverse.”

The banknote will be of 6.6 cm × 14.6 cm dimension, or slightly bigger than an iPhone 6. Besides the general security features, the notes will also have raised printing of some text for the visually impaired, according to the RBI.

9. Guarantee Clause, Governor’s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards the right of Mahatma Gandhi portrait.

Now Rs 200 will be the only new kind of note that will be introduced by RBI after Rs 2000 notes. Earlier there was a discussion on introducing Rs 1000 notes with strict security concerns, unlike the before ones. However, those concerns were boldly rejected finally.
