Things went bizarre when people are selling the new Rs 2,000 note on eBay India at an unimaginable price of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs. 15 Lakhs. Yes, there is a valid reason for quoting such huge price for a Rs. 2000 note.

A series of five Rs 2,000 notes starting with the number 786, were being offered by a seller on the marketplace for Rs 15 lakh. The note is considered holy and is treated as such. So the note is selling for extremely high rates. The note begins or ends in the number 786 which is considered to be a holy number by many religious communities in India. And it’s seriously shocking to see that some people are willing to buy the notes.

A popular astrologer said: “In India, people are ready to pay a premium for goods that sport numbers with religious significance such as vehicle number plates, mobile numbers or even residential addresses.”

eBay spokesperson said: “We are an independent online marketplace and an intermediary and doesn’t control the items listed by independent sellers on the site. There has been no successful transaction for Rs 2,000 currency notes. And we made the user to delete the ad.”

There are even some crazy schemes going on where people are promising a Rs 500 note free with Rs 2000 notes. There are many buyers who are excited about the offers. While the sale of old currency is treated as a hobby the selling of circulating currency for inflated amounts is illegal and action can be taken against it.
