Randeep Hooda has lost 18 kgs in 28 days and is almost unrecognisable as Sarabjit Singh in Omung Kumar’s upcoming biopic. The 39-year-old actor looks shockingly malnourished, battered and destitute in the image shared by director Omung Kumar.

The actor who is known to be working for the first time with the national award winner Omung Kumar is giving all the credits of his look to the director. “He cut down on his meals, filling up on coffee and water, even when we were shoot ing in Palghar and gorging on some great food. In his years in jail, Sarabjit was kept in a 4 x 4 room and had rat bites all over him. The first time I met Randeep, I told him that I wanted to see his bones. He took up the challenge and shocked even me,” admits Omung.

After bagging many accolades for his hit film Mary Kom, director Omung Kumar is back with a bang with Sarabjit biopic. The film is based on Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentenced to death. He was attacked by inmates at a prison in Lahore in April 2013 and died a few days later.

The biopic stars Randeep Hooda in the titular role, Richa Chadha as his wife and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be playing the role of Dalbir Kaur (Sarabjit’s sister). The biopic traces the struggles of Dalbir Kaur who runs from pillar to post to get her younger brother out of the Pakistani jail.

The film which is jointly produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Bhushan Kumar, and Sandeep Singh, is set to hit the screens on May 20, 2016.
