Shocking: 18-day-old Baby Sold By Teen Parents For An iPhone

The man, known only as “A Duan”, father of the child, from Tong’an, Fujian province, south eastern China, found a buyer for his 18-day-old daughter on the social media site QQ, who paid £2,500 (23,000 Yuan) for the baby, according to the state-run People’s Daily Online.

The mother, called “Xiao Mei” in reports, reportedly worked many part-time jobs while the father spent his most of time in internet cafes. The couple met at work back in 2013 and they both were 19 when they went through with the unplanned pregnancy. Being short of money and finding their newborn daughter to be a financial burden, A Duan eagerly took up the opportunity to traffic her off in order to buy the material possessions he desired.

The baby was purchased for the un-named buyer’s sister. The buyer allegedly turned himself into police after acquiring the infant.

Mei had fled from Tong’an after the baby was sold, but was tracked down by police investigating the illegal sale. Furthermore, the police claim that the father sold the baby without the mother’s consent. And yet, she wasn’t really affected that she lost her baby girl. Mei reportedly told police: “I myself was adopted, and may people in my hometown send their kids to other people to raise them. I really didn’t know that it was illegal.”

The father, A Duan was sentenced to 3 years in jail while the mother, Mei received a two and half years suspended prison sentence because she hasn’t completed her studies, a report said.

Sorry, baby. Daddy needs an upgrade. And it isn’t the first time we’ve seen reports like this in China going to extreme lengths — like selling a kidney to get their hands on the latest Apple products.
