Suresh Raina scored his maiden World Cup century as India finished Pool B unbeaten with a six-wicket win over Zimbabwe at Eden Park in Auckland. Raina scored 110 not out from 104 balls after being dropped on 48 by Hamilton Masakadza. MS Dhoni partnered Raina at the crease with a knock of 85 not out.

Suresh Raina Whacks a 104-ball 110* Against Zimbabwe:

Zimbabwe were all out in 48.5 overs and this match is little emotional for Zimbabwe players because stand-in captain Brendan Taylor signed off his international career in style with his eighth ODI hundred.

India stuttered to 21 for two after losing Rohit Sharma (16) and Dhawan (four) both off the bowling of Panyangara. Ajinkya Rahane was run out by Raza for 16 and Virat Kohli fell for 38 as India limped to 92-4.

Raina was dropped on 48 by Masakadza when the match was finely-poised, with India needing another 130 runs with 15 overs remaining. However, Raina and Dhoni kept the scoreboard ticking over, with the latter firing his 57th one day international half century. Raina capitalised on the dropped catch by making a century from 94 balls, ably supported by Dhoni, who hit the winning runs with a six over backward square.

But Dhoni and Raina had other ideas and were equally helped by some sloppy Zimbabwean fielding as the Indian left-hander got a lifeline on 48, thanks to Masakadza who dropped a sitter.
From there on, there was no looking back for the Indians. The shoulders started to drop as and when the partnership between the duo grew.

The win maintained India’s clean sheet in Pool B, which Dhoni’s men topped with 6/6 wins and having bowled out all their six opponents, which is the most heartening aspect of India’s journey to the quarter-finals.

The only disappointment in this match was the bowling of India spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja who ended with figures of 1 for 75 and 0 for 71 respectively.
