This Engineering Student Designed An Entire Airplane While He Was Drunk And It’s Nothing Short Of Brilliant

Normally when people get drunk, they even struggle to get onto their beds. But this university student has taken drunken shenanigans to a whole new level. A Michigan Technological University student named Mark (that’s not his real name), who came home drunk one night, woke up in the morning to discover that he had designed an entire airplane.

His roommate Keith Fraley, a 19-year-old second-year student of software engineering at Michigan Tech College, had a first person experience of the whole incident and this is what he had to say:

“It all started around 11.30pm. Mark burst into the room in a drunken sway, asking where his textbooks were and after greeting me he rushed back out of the room. From what the person who brought him up (to the shared accommodation) was saying, Mark had a ton of rum and vodka-mixed drinks.”

“He then came stumbling back two minutes later to grab his giant whiteboard. I just laughed as I sat on the computer listening to his murmurs. Around 1.30am, he came back and he sat on the couch with a worn look on his face. He fell asleep and woke up about an hour later basically questioning his sanity because of the immense amount of work that was in front of him, with no memory of his motivation to do it.”

The next day, Mr. Fraley posted them on his Twitter account, with the caption: “So my roommate came back drunk last night and doesn’t remember designing an entire f****** airplane.”

And the tweet has gone viral, with over 75,000 retweets and 125,000 favourites. When the story broke out, the drunk-designer also gave interviews with his alias as he’s somewhat worried about his drinking exploits in the context of future job prospects.

Mark, a mechanical engineering student, says that the finished design is of an ‘ekranoplan’ which is a very high-speed aircraft that floats above the water.  Although the plane was designed in an inebriated state, Mark wants to test it in a controlled environment. Mark said that he is going to try and recreate his design in a remote-control model.

Experts have said that the drunken plan may work but Mark may need to look more carefully at the design for the tail prop.
