Shocking Incident In Odisha: Two Minor Girls Sold by Parents For Rs 20,000

While the PM Narendra modi Stresses on Beti bachao,Beti padhao , It has been so peculiar situation to hear that two minor girls are sold by parents itself for Rs 20,00o in Odisha .The accused parents, Manbhula and Prabhasini had three daughters and two sons and among them, Pushpa the eldest one is married.  His son Sanatan contributed to the family income by doing odd jobs. The accused father , a daily wage labourer reportedly sold his two minor daughters Anjali and Jyoti to meet his alcohol expenses. According to the reports , a married woman and her brother on Saturday filed a complaint with Sambalpur Town police in Odisha alleging that their two minor sisters were sold by their parents.

In their complaint it has been stated that , Pushpa Saha and her brother Sanatan Naik told that their father Manbhula Naik (45) and mother Prabhasini (40) of Mudipada in Sambalpur city sold their sisters – Jyoti Naik (13) and Anjanli Naik (14) – to an unknown woman for Rs 20,000 in Pathria of Madhya Pradesh on June 1. The complaint has been countersigned by paternal aunt of the siblings, Hemlata Sani.

Siblings Missing on June 1:

Pushpa stated that, she had no information about her siblings since they went missing on June 1. Despite her persistent efforts, she was unable to contact her sisters. She alleged that her father, a daily wage labourer, sold the two girls to meet his alcohol expenses. She said that Sanatan had accompanied her parents to Pathria where they gave away one  of her sisters and took Rs 20,000.Their mother Prabhasini also did not object to it. When Sanatan opposed his parents, he was beaten up by Manbhula. Later, the parents sold the other daughter at a different place. On their return, Sanatan revealed the details to Pushpa.

She added that “Anjali and Jyoti had become a burden on my alcoholic father. There is a woman in the area who lured him to sell Jyoti and Anjali for Rs 20,000,” .Police have detained Manbhula and Prabhasini for questioning.During police interrogation, Manbhula said he has married off all his three daughters as they were more than 20 years of age.  However, he could not tell where he had married them off but his elder brother can give information about it.
