Vijay Goel ‘Upgrades’ India’s Rio 2016 Haul, Calls PV Sindhu, Sakshi Gold Medallists; Trolled Again!

Delhi: Rio Olympics got over a week back, but India’s Sports Minster Vijay Goel, who has been in the news for all wrong reasons during the Olympics, is back with another gaffe. The Minister called PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik as gold medallists to once again become a laughing stock on the social media.

Since Vijay Goel was appointed sports minister, his tenure has been a ‘Comedy of Errors’ hurtling from one controversy to another. During Rio Olympics, he was pulled up by the authorities for his ‘unruly entourage ‘, who were allegedly aggressive and rude. After receiving an official warning from the authorities at Rio, the politician made a gaffe on Twitter by getting gymnast Dipa Karmakar’s name wrong. He also posted a wrong picture of 100m runner Dutee Chand to wish 200m sprinter Srabani Nanda luck during the Games.

Vijay Goel suffered yet another foot-in-mouth moment on Sunday when he referred silver and bronze medallists P.V. Sindhu and Sakshi Malik, respectively, as ‘Gold Medallist’ despite the fact that he stayed at Rio with Indian players throughout the Olympics.

Facing criticism after referring silver and bronze medallists PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik, as Rio ‘gold medallist,’ the Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Sunday clarified and said that it was a slip of tongue.

Giving his justification, Sports Minister said,

He also added, I wanted to say medallist but ended up saying gold medallist and anyway, who knows we might bag a gold medal in the coming years: Vijay Goel.

Many were even more amused when on Sunday, he posted a picture of him with actor Suniel Shetty and claimed that he discussed “constructive steps for the encouragement & development of Sports in India” with him.

But this time he seems to have really outdone himself and he was trolled big time online. For ‘creating history’ on his own, Goel got trolled on Twitter.

Here are some epic twitter reactions to the Minister’s statement:
