Cricket, this game is loved by millions all around the world. Cricket is known as gentleman’s game and has various formats like ODI’s, T20’s and Test matches. Test matches are the longest format in the game and are usually played for 5days. But have you ever wondered why these players wear white coloured clothes during test matches?

Earlier, test matches were continued till the result was out unlike today where the game stops on the 5th day. The longest played test match was between South Africa and England in Durban which went on for 9days.

Cricketers need to have an attire which will let them play for such long periods in the scorching heat to maintain their focus on the game and white was the choice as it acts as a good repeller to the heat.

Cricket is a summertime sport and naturally white was the first choice for such this long game. Cricket has a long history which is continuing since the 16th century. Back in those days, there were no coloured clothes and hence white clothes were used during the matches.

Another opinion is that as Cricket is considered as an elite game in Britain, the colour white is used as it is a symbol of highness and purity. Some believe this is the reason behind changing ODI costume to white after world cup 1992.

One more logical opinion is that white uniform is added as the dress code because it would be easy to concentrate on the ball as the batsmen can easily spot the red ball which is used in the test cricket, unlike the white ball which is used in ODI’s and T20’s.

Test matches are the respectable formats which are why there are very fewer changes made in the format and it means a lot to the players who get the opportunity to play in them.
