Axar Patel Replaces Suspended Ravindra Jadeja For The Third Test Against Sri Lanka

After the enigmatic suspension of Ravindra Jadeja in test series, there was an intriguing environment in the cricket fraternity in finding the replacement for the next match.

Though everyone has expected Kuldeep Yadav to be the one, it is Axar Patel who bagged the position surprising almost all. With a mere experience of playing in 30 ODIs and 7 T20s clinching 35 wickets and 7 wickets respectively, Axar’s entry was not much anticipated.

Now that the player’s name is on the cards, it is his duty to fill the void that is created by Jadeja’s absence which definitely is huge. Well, being the replacement for World’s No. 1 all-rounder is after all not an easy one.

With the average of 30.20 and 23.00 in ODI and T20 formats respectively this 23-Year-Old cricketer is all set to play on 12th August at Kandy.

It was Jadeja’s throw in the second test that manipulated the whole presence of his name, Icc in a statement said that Jadeja threw the ball against Malinda Pushpakumara “in a dangerous manner”, as per the report of on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Bruce Oxenford.

Getting into the details, this act was in breach of article 2.2.8 of the player’s Code of Conduct which deals with “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match”.
