[WATCH VIDEO] Indian Women’s Cricket Team Receive Rousing Welcome On Return At The Mumbai Airport

Amid rousing chants and enthusiasm of fans, the Indian Women’s Cricket team has arrived in Mumbai, early Wednesday morning. The Indian women’s national cricket team got a rousing reception upon their arrival at the airport from their memorable campaign in the ICC Women’s World Cup in England.

The Indian women were having a dream run in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. It seemed throughout the tournament that it was meant and tailored to be theirs for the taking. They have played exceptionally well and dominated the oppositions only strengthened the claims.

However, Team India under the leadership of Mithali Raj ended up as the runner-ups in the quadrennial global tournament after they were defeated by hosts England in the final on July 23. But India won the hearts of millions of Indian cricket fans for their terrific performance in the ICC tournament.

Well, the defeat can take nothing away from the players. They gave their best throughout the tournament and gave the fans several moments of joy. As the fans and cricket pundits rightly lauded, the women in blue had made all the fans back home very proud.

It was 3.45 am but far from a dead night as hundreds reached the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai to give a roaring reception to their new heroes, India’s women cricket team. The team gathered the attention, support, and admiration of the country during their brilliant campaign.

The players received a grand reception at the airport, with people putting ’tilak’ on the girls’ forehead and garlanding them. The team certainly deserved every bit of the rousing welcome that they received at the airport.

According to reports a record 1.1 million tuned in from the UK alone to view the final, that was played between India and England. Reports also state that this figure is equal to the average audience that tunes in to watch the wildly popular Premier League’s Sunday afternoon matches, according to statistics from the Broadcasters Audience Research Board.
