JP Duminy Creates New Record, Smashes 37 Runs In An Over

Every cricket fan knows how hard it is for a batsman to score as many runs as possible in one over. In the least case, a batsman can score 36 runs off one over i.e. 6 balls in the form of 6 sixes. We know former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri, former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs and Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh hit 6 sixes in an over.

Now, a question raises that can a batsman score more than 36 runs in an over? It’s impossible, isn’t it?

JP Duminy broke record for most runs in an over

But, for everyone’s surprise, South African all-rounder JP Duminy broke all the records by scoring 37 runs off 1 over in a One Day match. Duminy might have retired from the longer format of the game, but he showed he’s no spent force in the short-format of the game by scoring an extraordinary 37-run over.

This is the second most run made in an over in the history of A-Class cricket worldwide. JP Duminy was playing for the Cape Cobras against VKB Knights in a Momentum one-day cup match, at the Netherlands. Duminy managed to hit 5 sixes, a four in a no ball and a double which summed up to be 37 runs in an over.

It happened when the Cape Cobras were comfortably placed at 208 for 2 in the 36th over of a chase of 240 against the Knights. Duminy was at 32 runs before he went on an attacking spree.

Leg-spinner Eddie was the bowler bowling the 7th over and JP Duminy started off by hitting 4 consecutive sixes. Then he ran for 2 runs and the 6th ball went for a four and was called a no-ball which provided with an extra ball, JP Duminy again took the opportunity and hit it over the rope for another six making it a record in the history of cricket.

Duminy had not only won the match but secured his place in history as the batsman to hit the second-most runs in an over of List A cricket.

Duminy retired from Test and first-class cricket last September after being dropped from the national side. The left-hander, who made his Test debut against Australia in 2008, finished with 2103 runs at 32.85 and has played 129 one-day matches for the Proteas, scoring 4668 runs at 37.64 while also taking 63 wickets.
