Kolkata Test: Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami Angry As Sri Lankan Batsman Niroshan Dickwella Wastes Time
In the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, the hosts were halted at a meager first-innings score of 172, in reply to which the Lankans had scored 294 runs by the end of their innings, gaining a healthy lead of 122 runs. However, one particular incident attracted a lot of attention.
However, some splendid bowling by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami and a fine second-innings hundred skipper Virat Kohli pushed Sri Lanka on the back foot. The visitors, who had dominated the first half of the Test, were soon four down and battling to stave off defeat in their chase of 231.
India fought back valiantly after their collapse on the first day. Bhuvneshwar had taken a wicket either side of tea while Shami and Umesh Yadav bowled fiery spells to rock the Islanders. India was pushing hard for victory in on the final day of the Kolkata Test against Sri Lanka but the hosts were put off by Niroshan Dickwella’s time-wasting tactics.
Things took a bitter turn when Dickwella looked to the waste time when India’s pacers wanted to get through as many overs as possible. As Shami was bowling the 19th over of the Sri Lankan innings and Dickwella isn’t taking his stance soon.
This upset Shami, who made his displeasure felt. He had a word with Kohli as well as the batsmen. Dickwella, in an unsporting gesture, then indicated to Shami after his next delivery that the pitch and not his own skills, were helping him extract the extra bounce.
The war of words had taken to next level and getting more difficult. Both umpires assembled and involved Indian skipper Kohli, Chandimal, and Dickwella. At the end, Dickwella apologized to Kohli, who walked back to his position on the field.

This undoubtedly fired up Shami, who got the ball to reverse in his next over and castled Chanidmal as Sri Lanka lost their fifth wicket. However, the on-field umpires stopped the match due to bad light and the match was declared drawn.
