Each and every cricketer must be fit to play the game and the respective boards keep on testing its players and select them in the squad.

When it comes to team India captain Virat Kohli, his prime focus to play the game is being fit. Virat is one of the consistent athlete showing with the bat in hand is his work ethics off the field. He takes his fitness regime very seriously so that he never misses a match.

Virat’s fitness continues to set new standards in both the Indian cricket team and the world. Along with fitness trainer Shankar Basu, Kohli has ensured that he has taken his game to a new level. It is no surprise that Virat Kohli wants his team to be the fittest in the world. Those who have tracked Kohli’s career from his early days would know that the Indian skipper wasn’t the most athletic player in the park.

But his sacrifices, discipline, and fitness regime have set an example in front of other cricketers too. From starting out as a chubby cricketer from Delhi, Kohli’s transformation into supremely fit athlete has been commendable.

The official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on Tuesday of Virat while working out. Kohli was seen sweating it out during the workout session in the gym. The Twitter post read, “MUST WATCH: What goes into the making of captain @imVkohli’s well-sculpted body? Fellow cricketers like Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar too have started following the footsteps of their captain. Basu returned to the side as the strength and fitness coach for the ICC Champions Trophy, where India ended as runners-up.

He has also worked with Kohli on the latest power training techniques. Basu introduced the latest methods such as Dexa Scan, load monitoring app, and Yo Yo training which resulted in the improvement of fitness levels of the Indian cricket team. He had earlier said that he wants to raise the fitness bar of the Indian team.

Shankar Basu was recently offered a new two-year contract along with the other support staff members that will see him train the Indian men’s cricket team till the 2019 ICC World Cup. The path ahead is pretty tough for the team as they travel outside the country to play few important series. These series would be the ultimate test for Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
