Why Did The Girls Carry Drinks For Cricketers In Sri Lanka vs India Match? Here’s The Reason

The current Indian cricket team’s tour of Sri Lanka 2017 will be remembered as one of the most one-sided demolitions in Sri Lankan cricket history. Started with the 3-match Test series, India had outplayed Sri Lanka in all three departments of the game and became the first touring side ever to whitewash Sri Lanka at home in Test cricket.

After a complete dominance by the visiting team in Test series, Sri Lankan cricket fans hoped for a better show in the limited overs format. But nothing went in the favor of Sri Lankan team and fans. But, the story repeated itself. Apart from Akila Dananjaya, who took 6 wickets in the second ODI, no other Sri Lankan cricketer stood and lost the series.

However, in the fourth ODI, something unusual happened on the field. Generally, the extras in the team help their teammates on the field with drinks during a break. Which is also the medium the coaching staff uses to send across a message or two.

In the fourth, a couple of girls made their way to the ground and were helping the players with drinks and napkins. This is all the idea of Sri Lankan Cricket board. The incident happened during the second innings when India was defending their mammoth total of 375.

During Sri Lanka’s chase in the evening, umpires called for the mandatory drinks break after the first hour. The reserve players Ajinkya Rahane and Yuzvendra Chahal brought the drinks for their mates but along with them few girls also strode out.

The players also looked a little confused as this has never happened during an international cricket match before. But eventually, the break was important for them and had time to replenish themselves to move forward with the game.

According to a report, a Sri Lanka Cricket official has revealed the reason behind Sri Lankan Cricket board’s decision. “Ground must look beautiful,” the board officials were quoted as saying. Bhairav Shanth, the Co-founder of the ITW, the event management company overseeing the match in this series, said that they wanted to do ‘something new’. “We wanted to do something new to the old tradition and this idea struck to us.”

However, the final and fifth ODI match between India and Sri Lanka has been the memorable game for the visitors. The ODI series is done and dusted; Team India is on a clean sweep spree in Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue have a perfect blend in the team, of the youth and experience of aggression and calmness and this is what makes them a complete package.

Continuing the winning streak against the Sri Lankans, team India did it again in ODI series by whitewashing Sri Lanka 5-0.
