Zaheer Khan Announces Retirement From International Cricket

One of India’s premier fast bowler Zaheer Khan called time on his illustrious international career as he has decided to announce his retirement on Thursday(15th October). The veteran pacer had been struggling with injuries for a lengthy period of time and has been in and out of the game very frequently.

The 37-year-old veteran, who has played 92 Test matches, 200 ODIs and 17 T20 Internationals, took to Twitter to formally announce his retirement.

India’s premier quick bowler also announced the same on his Facebook page saying, he will continue playing domestic cricket for one season before calling it quits from all forms at the end of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016.”I look forward to signing off my last season in domestic cricket at the conclusion of IPL season 9.”

“As a kid from a small town Shrirampur, I gave up a career in engineering to pursue bowling. My parents backed that decision and every decision since! My dad, I distinctly remember said, ‘Engineers toh bahut saare hein tu bowler hi ban na,” he added.

With 610 international wickets, Zaheer finishes as one of India’s most successful bowlers, being the fourth-highest wicket-taker for India across formats. He will, however, continue to play in the IPL for one more season.
