Following the footsteps of other technology giants like Facebook, Google, and Twitter, Yahoo has made this announcement that it will commence notifying users regarding if their accounts have been targeted or attacked by hackers working on behalf of governments.

Earlier, the social media giant Facebook and the microblogging site Twitter also notified its users about the hacking attacks. Now, it’s Yahoo’s turn to alert its users about the state-sponsored hacking attacks. The ostensible hackers are from China or Russia who cannot tear through government agency networks, and rather, divert their attention on joining an organization via the private accounts of the employees. If the user operates similar password over their accounts (various studies have identified that they do), or access job-relevant portals from home, the alleged hackers can dive on their targets through those gateways.

“We’ll provide these specific notifications so that our users can take appropriate measures to protect their accounts and devices in light of these sophisticated attacks. Our notifications provide targeted users with specific actions they can take to help ensure that their Yahoo accounts are safe and secure, “Lord added.
