Designer Sabyasachi Breaks Silence On Why He Chose The ‘Controversial’ Outfits For Virat Kohli & Anushka Sharma

There was one thing that had taken over all our timelines over the last few weeks and it is Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma’s wedding. Both tied the knot in a private ceremony with family and a few friends in attendance in Tuscany, Italy. And the wedding was one of the most romantic, dreamy and fairytale-like weddings of 2017.

The couple looked absolutely gorgeous wearing stunning outfits designed by the Sabyasachi. Not only for the wedding, the couple wore the outfits designed by Sabyasachi in all other events kicked off after their wedding like two receptions in New Delhi and Mumbai.

While Anushka looked breathtakingly resplendent in a blush pink lehenga, Virat looked handsome in a color-coordinated bandhgala outfit in the wedding. Now just when the nation couldn’t get over how great the couple looked in all their wedding functions, the most bizarre thing happened.

While all this was going on a positive note, people on the Internet has bit-crossed the line by trolling Anushka Sharma over her outfit and also the designer Sabyasachi. There were many people who trolled and asked what’s special or unique in the design of the outfit?

Now, the ace designer has opened up about designing Anushka’s bridal outfits in an interview. Sabyasachi told that Anushka has followed the brand on Instagram and wanted to be a Sabyasachi bride. The actress, her stylist Allia Al Rufai and Sabya sat down to discuss the outfits for all the functions.

Talking about the same, Sabya said, “Anushka is a Pahari girl, and I think for her side of the family, culture, tradition are very, very important. She wanted to do the works, the jhumkas, the Nath and two dupattas, but she was getting married in Tuscany, so she wanted to be in sync with what the natural surroundings of Tuscany would be. In Tuscany, you would be conspicuous if you were wearing a red lehenga, especially when there is no sun. I knew the wedding would be in winter and there would be little sunlight, so it would be best to keep the colors pale.”

He further added, “Anushka is a very understated girl and she did not want the lehenga to be very heavy as she wanted to enjoy her own wedding, so she wanted to able to float around in the lehenga.” Sabya also revealed that the designer received flak for Anushka’s red Banarasi saree look for Delhi reception.

He said, “I got a lot of flak for Anushka’s Delhi reception outfit because a lot of people said ‘Iss main designer kya hai?’ But the comments made me smile because that is exactly what we wanted to do, we wanted her to be accessible, we did not want her to sit in an ivory tower.”

In the meanwhile, Anushka Sharma wrapped her South Africa trip with Virat Kohli and has returned to Mumbai. The actress also joined the shoot for her upcoming film titled Zero. Zero is directed by Anand L. Rai and features Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
