Bid Goodbye to Motorola Brand: Lenovo Rebrands it as ‘Moto by Lenovo’

Lenovo, the Chinese multinational company which bought Motorola Mobility from the software giant Google in the year 2014 is now planning to kill the Motorola smartphone brand. The Chinese firm is now reportedly ditching the term ‘Motorola’ in terms of handsets, and it will instead remain as a division under Lenovo. All the new devices will eventually make a transition to ‘Moto’ branding, not ‘Motorola.’

Lenovo attains the fourth position among the top branded smartphone manufacturers in the world. By attaining the fourth position, the company has strengthened itself as a tyrant in the smartphone market. Lenovo has acquired product recognition in the overseas markets because of its innovation and global expansion. The Chinese handset maker maintains three smartphone brands namely Motorola, Vibe and Lemon. Lenovo has been selling its mobile phones under these three brands.

Motorola to be rebranded soon as Moto by Lenovo

Last year, a rumor went viral that Lenovo bids goodbye to its Vibe brand so as to pave the way for Motorola handsets. But now, the news has completely turned and now it’s time for bidding Goodbye to Motorola smartphones brand. The company will not kill the Motorola brand completely instead, they have rebranded it as ‘Moto by Lenovo’. Motorola will live on from a corporate aspect as a division of the Chinese consumer-electronics giant, said Motorola Chief Operating Officer Rick Osterloh.

Bye, Bye Motorola, Hello “Moto by Lenovo!”

In an exclusive interview, Motorola Chief Operating Officer Rick Osterloh said, “We’ll slowly phase out Motorola and focus on Moto.” This does not indicate that Motorola brand will be gone for big but instead, the company will attach the ‘Moto for Lenovo’ tag on its high-end smartphones and will, in turn, conjoin its budget handsets under its ‘Vibe’ brand respectively.

Adding to the statement of COO, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing said, “It’s our treasure. We plan to not only protect the Motorola brand but make it stronger.” According to the report from the chief officers of Lenovo,  the decision is expected a frolic to accept the Moto series of smartphones, which is popular with Android adorers, to make users more familiarized with the Lenovo brand.

Lenovo, in the year 2014 completed the acquisition of Motorola Mobility from Google at $2.91 billion. Google had earlier acquired the iconic smartphone brand and its prized patent portfolio in 2012 for $12.5 billion but strived hard to transpose Motorola’s years-long slump. Last year, in the month of December, Motorola had announced discounts through ‘Big app sales days’ via Flipkart. The company was offering many offers to users due to the festive season with the ‘Power to Choose’ deals for the complete spectrum of handsets.
