10 Unknown Facts You Must Know About India’s New President Ram Nath Kovind

Ram Nath Kovind, the BJP candidate has now won the elections and is about to sworn in as India’s new President after Pranab Mukherjee’s tenure which is about to end on July 25th of this year. The whole country is curious about the working strategy of Kovind. Right from the beginning, the decision on electing him as the president sounded unanimous.

Being the former Governor of Bihar and the BJP’s subsidiary Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh- RSS’ popular face, Ram Nath Kovind is all set to ascend the throne of Country’s one of the most powerful designation. Kovind is a lawyer by profession, a Dalit leader, a Hindutva ideologue by thinking and a dedicated BJP worker by political affiliation. With a B.Com, LLB from Kanpur University he has earned a very successful career as a lawyer.

He was Central Government Advocate in Delhi High Court from 1977 to 1979 and Central Government Standing Counsel in Supreme Court from 1980 to 1993, later, became Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court of India in 1978. He had practiced in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court for about 16 years until 1993. Kovind was enrolled as an advocate in 1971 with the Bar Council of Delhi.

Kovind also worked as the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha chief from 1998 to 2002 and President of the All-India Koli Samaj, he served as the national spokesperson for the party. BJP even tried to project him as an alternative to Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh. On 8th of August 2015, the President of India appointed him the Governor of Bihar. He was elected to Rajya Sabha from the state of Uttar Pradesh during the two terms of 1994-2000 and 2000-2006.

Parallel to this, Kovind is well acclaimed as a pioneer in spreading education. He served as a member of the board of management of BR Ambedkar University, Lucknow. He also served as a member of the board of governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, he represented India in United Nations (New York) and addressed the UN General Assembly in October 2002, which very few have done so far.
