Study On DNA Reveals ‘Green Bul’ Birds Might Not Have Existed At All

Out of the plethora of researchers on distinct species, scientists now come up with a breakthrough regarding the existence of popularly strange bird ‘Greenbul’. Research on the multiple birds’ DNA revealed that this is after all, another kind of Bulbul bird.

This bird is considered as one of the most elusive species of the songbird and is very rarely seen because it never actually existed, according to researchers, called as “Liberian Greenbul”, it was was first recorded as being spotted in a forest during the early 1980s, but has escaped the search of experts for decades.

After a typical study on the same, the University of Aberdeen scientists believe the bird is actually a common Icterine Greenbul, but with an unusual plumage variant caused by poor nutrition. “The Liberian Greenbul has gained almost ‘mythical’ status since it was sighted in the ’80s,” said Professor Martin Collinson.

Talking about the same, in his Birds of Liberia, Gatter said, “I traveled all over in Libera and didn’t find it. That was my reason for my decision to ask specialists to prove it, lead us to the conclusion that the Liberian Greenbul is most likely a plumage variant of the Icterine Greenbul.”

The scientists only have one specimen to work from, so it’s hard to make a definitive conclusion. Still, they write, “Our data point strongly to the likelihood that Liberian Greenbul represents a plumage variety of Icterine Greenbul.”

He added, “I’m quite disappointed, I don’t understand how the bird could look so different from the normal bird.” Moreover, on a positive note, Gatter concluded, “I’m happy DNA evidence exists now.”
