Vijay Mallya Spotted In The Stands Watching India-Pakistan Match At Edgbaston Yesterday

The most awaited match of the ICC Champions Trophy tournament between India and Pakistan goes beyond the game. A lot of celebrities attended the arch-rival match at Edgbaston. We had seen Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood hero Ranveer Singh, South Indian hero Dhanush, etc.

We all know that Liquor baron Vijay Mallya fled the country and is settled currently in the United Kingdom due to several cases of financial default piled up on him. He was spotted at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham watching the India-Pakistan clash. He is wanted in India for defaulting on bank loans worth Rs 9,000 crore.

Recently, he was arrested by the Scotland Yard in London but was later granted bail after having been produced before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Mallya has been served several notices by several courts, agencies, and banks who have been searching for him since a few years.

After several non-appearances in hearings, he was branded as an absconder and arrest warrants were issued. Scotland Yard had stated in their press release that the arrest had been made on behalf of the Indian authorities. Mallya has given up on his IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore but he is still a co-owner of the Formula-One team Force India.

TV cameras spotted a suited Mallya, basking in the sun, sitting in the VIP stand and enjoying the cricket. The entrepreneur was spotted in the stadium alongside other cricket lovers, sitting in the stands. Pictures shared widely on social media showing the owner of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines sitting in the stands wearing a white coat.

Mallya was spotted with Sunil Gavaskar and later in the stands:

The 61-year-old Mallya, known for leading a flamboyant lifestyle, has been fighting an extradition case in the UK. He is next set to appear in front of the British court on May 17. India has been pushing for Mallya’s extradition, with even the Prime Minister’s Office getting involved. In November last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally explained to visiting British PM Theresa May why it was important that Mallya had to return to India.

However, team India began their innings slightly on the slower side, with runs not coming easy, before Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan changed gears to become more aggressive through the middle overs. With the help of skipper Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh’s wonderful innings, they set a target of 320 for the arch rival Pakistan.

Finally, with the heroics and in-form Indian bowling line-up, Pakistan batsmen could only manage to score 164 and India won the match by 124 runs.
