CEO Elon Musk Disappointed About Tesla’s Electric Car Launch In India, Government Of India Gives An Epic Reply To His Tweet!
As the current generation is running with the high-end and advanced technologies, the whole world is now looking at a great change in the field of Electric Automated Cars and Global leader ‘Tesla’. According to the reports, the CEO and CTO of SpaceX, Elon Musk is all set to take yet another leap.
He is considered as the real life Iron Man as his goals look beyond the time which includes creating a human colony on Mars.
Recently Musk shared the latest achievement of Tesla and its future goals on Twitter. Tesla CEO Elon Musk indicated in a tweet that the support to meet India’s 30% local sourcing norm doesn’t yet exist in India. Lack of component suppliers in India is delaying the entry of electric cars in the country, Tesla’s founder and CEO Elon Musk said on Monday.
In February 2017, Musk had tweeted that he was hoping for Tesla to launch its vehicle in summer. However, he dashed the hopes of seeing the company launching Tesla in India either in 2017 or 2018.
Talking about Tesla, Elon tweeted that he is excited about the Tesla Autopilot software which is to be released the following month and was confident about the new algorithm. The tweet read, “Excited about the Tesla Autopilot software release rolling out next month. New control algorithm feels as smooth as silk.”

When Musk was asked about the chances of Tesla launching its model in India in 2017 or 2018.
Are there any chances for Tesla to release in India in 2017 or 2018? Waiting for that.

But for the moment it seemed like all hopes were crushed by the disclaimer given by Elon. He said that he was told that 30% of parts must be locally sourced and the supply doesn’t yet exist in India to support that. He also added that he was not sure about the information and he could be wrong.
Musk replied saying, “Maybe I’m misinformed, but I was told that 30% of parts must be locally sourced and the supply doesn’t yet exist in India to support that.”

Earlier today, from its #MakeInIndia, handle, the Indian government released a note on Twitter, refuting the earlier reasons given by Elon Musk to delay the launch. This response was in regard to the alleged launch delay of Tesla’s new electric vehicle, the Model 3 Sedan, up for sale at $35K in the US.
Here’s the tweet by GOI.

“With respect to news reports on launch plans of Tesla in India being delayed, please note some key clarifications #MakeInIndia”
The clarifications included,
1. Not correct. FDI policy of India does not mandate any such minimum sourcing of components by manufacturers.
2. After manufacturing in India, a foreign investor is permitted to sell in any manner: wholesale, retail including e-commerce.
3. FDI policy also permits wholesale of imported goods in India without sourcing conditions.
4. It is only for the retail trading of goods, that sourcing conditions are mandated. Conditions not applicable to manufacturers as goods are manufactured in India.

The government’s Twitter note, however, state that the FDI policy of India does not mandate any such minimum sourcing of components by manufacturers. Also, after manufacturing in India, a foreign investor is permitted for sale in any manner: wholesale, retail, and e-commerce.
Interestingly, Mahindra did try to enter this market and launch their own electric car but doesn’t seem to have succeeded. So, we have to wait and see whether India gets an automated car or not. Hope the chances just got a little higher with the news
