Man With 1 Percent Chance Of Survival Gets Released From Hospital After 2-Month Coronavirus Battle

Gregg Garfield, a 54-year-old man, was in the hospital for 64 days after he contracted the deadly coronavirus.

For 31 days, Gregg was on a ventilator.

The 54-year-old man was patient zero at the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, which is around 10 miles away from Los Angeles.

He only had 1 percent chance of surviving, and he did by leaving the hospital last week.

He became ill and was hospitalized after a trip to Northern Italy in February.

During an interview with KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, said:

The disease kicked off, and my immune system just ate me alive.

Garfield, who is an athletic person and an avid skier, Garfield was on the verge of losing his fight with the novel coronavirus.

Garfield suffered pneumonia and kidney failure.

Stephanie Garfield Bruno, the sister of Garfield, said that 4 parts of his brother’s lungs collapsed.

All the complications left Gregg unable to walk.

With the help of physicians and physical trainers, Gregg started to regain his mobility and returned back to his house with a walker.

On the day of his release, the entire staff of the Providence St. Joseph gathered for a round of applause to cheer the man.

He was there for over 60 days.

He still has a long road to fully recover, but Garfield hopes that people will start to take this coronavirus more seriously.

During an interview with KCAL-TV, Gregg said:

The only thing I really am focused on right now is telling the story about how real this is.
